Pack Light for Your Next Vacation!

If you’re gearing up for your next vacation you may have a dilemma: airlines keep lowering the amount of luggage allowed on board, and you can’t figure out how to pack enough stuff for your upcoming trip! If you’re short on space and can’t cram in all that you need then this post is for you. Sit back, take a deep breath, and get ready to revamp your poor crammed suitcase.

First of all, figure out how many days and nights you’ll be gone. That’s basically how many changes of clothes you’ll need, so figure it this way: day clothes plus evening clothes plus sleepwear. That means if your trip is five days and nights you’ll need five of each type of clothing.

Next, lay out your five day outfits: top, bottom, and underclothes. Stack each outfit together and roll it up tightly before placing it in your suitcase. Repeat with the rest of the day clothes and then the evening and sleepwear.

Roll up your swimwear and cover up and add them to your case. Next put in cosmetics, personal care items, and your shoes or sandals. You should now have your bag packed in an economical fashion, with a bit left over for things you may have forgotten.

In your carryon you should have a change of clothes, just in case your luggage gets misplaced. This is also where you should carry any medications you might need as well as important papers and reading material or other things you may need quick access to.

Once you have the bulk of your packing done, tack a paper on your desk so you can jot down things you may have forgotten. If you take medication you should have a copy of your prescription, just in case your pills get lost or stolen. You should also have a list of contact names and numbers in case there’s an emergency and you’re unable to talk. If you have medical conditions list them as well as the name and number of your treating physician.

If you’re traveling out of the country you should check with the customs office so you’re clear about what you’re allowing to bring in and out of the country.
